Right to Die? - On this day, in 2005, Terri Schiavo's feeding tube is removed at the request of her husband. This story was particularly gripping as it involved many changes over the years. Terri first experienced what they thought was a heart attack on February 25, 1990. She suffered brain damage and was considered to be in a persistent vegetative state. After many appeals between Terri's husband Michael, and Terri's parents, the case made it's way through the courts and all the way up to President George W. Bush. Ultimately the courts sided with Michael Schiavo and Terri's feeding tube was removed. She died March 31, 2005. Both Michael Schiavo and Terri's parents (Robert and Mary Schindler) have become advocates for each side that they were on; the right to die and the right to live.
