ROADS AND BRIDGES - American drivers pay federal taxes of 18.4 cents a gallon on gasoline, revenue that is used to pay for roads, bridges and mass transit projects in the USA.  The gas tax rate was last raised in the USA in 1993 or 25 years ago (source: Highway Trust Fund).
